Today is Wednesday, March 5, 2025, the opening day of the Third Plenary Session of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) of China. This event has drawn significant attention both domestically and internationally, with observers focusing on various aspects.
In my view, the biggest news from yesterday and today is the unexpected appointment of Kong Shaoxun, Xi Jinping’s top aide and a key figure in the CCP’s Central Office, as the Deputy Secretary-General of this NPC session. Kong, who previously served as Deputy Director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Secretariat Bureau, was the one who publicly escorted Hu Jintao out during the 20th Party Congress. His absolute loyalty to Xi Jinping is well known.
This appointment is highly unusual, as Kong Shaoxun is not even a delegate to the NPC. His participation in the session is completely unexpected.
