Everyday life and lifestyle of reindeer herders of the Far North are covered with many myths. People, who know not much about tundra life, as a rule, are the authors of such beliefs. For them some skills of tundra dwellers are incomprehensible and amazing. For example, an ability to find the way in vast expanses of the north in any weather and time of the day.
The skill of indigenous northerners surpasses abilities of urban residents so much that reports about lost reindeer herders are perceived as a sensational story. People do not think about the mechanism of such ability – there is enough of a legend that indigenous northerners have known all the territories since childhood so that they move around them almost with their eyes closed.
