Itelmen weaving of baskets, mats and household items from Tuvayka coastal grass. Tuvayka is a soft grate (Leymus mollis), a perennial herbaceous plant of the Grass family. The garden wheat grass familiar to us is also a grate.
Any cultivated reed grass (also a family of cereals) will fit for such weaving, if you don’t have one in your garden - be sure to plant it - there will be material for weaving.
I collect grass of cereals or sedges in the forest, in a groove. Any tough, not too juicy grass will do. Weaving is durable, checked! The channel has a video of a grass basket after a year of active use. This year - I will weave a mat in the house
