Shankar, a thief steals money from Sahadev Sharma a school teacher which results in the death of his son. Shankar is sentenced to prison for a year. While in prison Shankar decides to seek penance for causing such a terrible loss to Mr. Sharma. However, on reaching the village after serving time in prison Shankar comes to know of the local strongman Jai Singh who rules the village with his terror. After observing the pitiable condition of the villagers, Shankar takes oath of the holy Ganges to end the reign of terror in the village. Will Shankar be able to end Jai Singh's tyranny? Will Mr. Sharma forgive Shankar?

शंकर नाम का एक चोर एक स्कूल शिक्षक सहदेव शर्मा से पैसे चुराता है जिसके परिणामस्वरूप उसके बेटे की मृत्यु हो जाती है। शंकर को एक साल के लिए जेल की सजा सुनाई गई है। जेल में रहते हुए शंकर ने मिस्टर शर्मा को इतना भयानक नुकसान पहुंचाने के लिए प्रायश्चित करने का फैसला किया। हालाँकि, जेल में समय बिताने के बाद गाँव पहुँचने पर शंकर को स्थानीय ताकतवर जय सिंह के बारे में पता चलता है जो अपने आतंक से गाँव पर शासन करता है। ग्रामीणों की दयनीय स्थिति को देखने के बाद, शंकर ने गाँव में आतंक के शासन को समाप्त करने के लिए पवित्र गंगा की शपथ ली। क्या शंकर जय सिंह के अत्याचार को ख़त्म कर पाएगा? क्या मिस्टर शर्मा शंकर को माफ कर देंगे?
