영화 유랑지구에서 태양은 적색거성으로 변해가면서 그 크기가 엄청나게 커진다. 이 때문에 지구는 너무 뜨거워져 더 이상 생명이 살 수 없는 행성이 되어가고 지구에 온갖 재해가 발생하면서 인류는 멸망 위기에 빠진다. 이에 인류는 지구를 통째로 4.37광년 떨어진 알파 센타우리계로 옮기는 '유랑지구 프로젝트'를 실시한다. 지구를 마치 하나의 초거대 우주선으로 만든다는 계획인 것. 그런데 이게 실제로 가능할까?
