So wonderful to see the Slingerland brand back in business again. I saw at the 2025 NAMM show the new line of Slingerland Radio King snare drums which looks and sounds like the way these drums were built in the 40`s. Of course Gene Krupa made Slingerland and Radio King drums famous! They also had some Slingerland drum sets which they will be making soon. One set had the 3 ply shell with rings, and the other set had the 5 ply shell that Slingerland made in the 70`s. This 1970 Slingerland Buddy Rich model set has the 3 ply maple, poplar, maple shell with the solid maple rings. Has to be one of the best sounding drums ever made with that full wide open tone Slingerland is famous for. The 24 inch bass drum has that big punch that is not dead and projects so well. The floor toms just sing with pure tone! Got to love that 5.5x14 Slingerland snare drum that is so crisp and with great rim shots from the chrome over brass hoops. This drum solo performance was from my Ken Loomer Big Band concert at the the Straz Performance Art Center in Tampa, Florida. I hope the new Slingerland drum company will make this BR set again. I would love to see a Slingerland Radio King set made like what Buddy Rich played for his last 5 years of his amazing career. I would for sure buy those drums. As you can hear, these Slingerland drums were made to sound so musical and perfect for the type of music that I play with my Big Band.
