Video #319 - A very interesting journey from Neral, in the outskirts of Mumbai, to a very interesting Hill station - Matheran. Matheran is a vehicle free hill station located on the Western Ghats, not very far from Mumbai. This unique hill station can be accessed by this 2 feet narrow gauge hill railway, which was built by Sir Adamjee Peerbhoy in 1907!
This train is very unique, that is operated by an articulated narrow gauge diesel engine (NDM1HP). The train does not have reservation facility and is extremely popular among tourists. You need to queue up early in the day to get tickets, which are issued in extremely limited numbers (Only 16 tickets in First Class and 90 tickets in Second Class!)
