Today’s recipe is Mahaprasad style batatyachi bhaji. This is mahaprasad or bhandara special aalo sabji. Generally, this bhaji is prepared for gavjevan or bhandara in most of the Marathi villages. This is a very easy and simple recipe. This recipe doesn’t need lot many ingredients. You can easily make it from very few ingredients those are readily available in your pantry. If you are bored of having the same batata bhaji and want to have something quick yet delicious, then this is a good option for you. Ingredients:
• 4 Potatoes
• 2 medium size chopped Onions
• 2 tbsp Oil
• 1 tsp Mustard seeds
• 1 tsp Cumin seeds
• 1/4 tsp Hing
• 2 Bay leaves
• 8~9 Curry leaves
• 3 tsp Peanuts
• 2 tsp shredded dry Coconut
• 1 tsp white Sesame seeds
• 1/2 tsp Poppy seeds
• 1 finely chopped Tomato
• 1 tsp Ginger-Garlic paste
• 1 1/2 tsp Kala masala
• 1 1/2 tsp Garam masala
• 1 tsp Coriander powder
• 1 1/2 tsp Red chili powder
• Salt to taste
• Finely chopped Coriander leaves
• 1 tsp Kasuri methi
• 500 ml hot Water
Method:
• Cook potatoes in cooker on medium heat until 3-4 whistles.
• Blend onion into puree in mixer.
• Heat up oil in a pan and add mustard seeds.
• When mustard seeds pop up, add cumin seeds, hing, bay leaves, curry leaves and onion puree and
fry well until it gets nice golden color.
• Roast peanuts really good until it gets nice reddish color.
• When peanuts are almost roasted, add dry coconut, sesame seeds and poppy seeds and roast
everything well together.
• Let the mixture cool down.
• When onion is fried well, add tomato, ginger-garlic paste, kala masala, garam masala, coriander
powder, red chili powder and salt and mix well.
• Fry the mixture until onion and tomato are cooked well.
• Add a little water if needed so that the mixture won’t stick to the base of the pan.
• Transfer the roasted mixture into a blender jar and blend it into fine powder.
• When tomato and onion are cooked well, add the blended powder and mix everything well
together.
• Add coriander leaves and kasuri methi and mix well.
• Add hot water and mix well.
• Simmer the gravy on low to medium heat for about 10-12 minutes.
• Peel the boiled potatoes and chop them roughly.
• Add the potato into simmering gravy and mix well.
• Simmer the bhaji on low to medium heat for about 8-10 minutes. Batatyachi bhaji is ready.
• Serve it with puri.
• You can add brinjal or flower or matar along with potato.
• You can cook the potato in the gravy if you want.
