القصة
القصة مقتبسة عن مسرحية البرجوازي النبيل للمؤلف الفرنسي موليير.
أبو زيت الهلالي (تلاعب بلفظ مقارب إلى أبي زيد الهلالي) تاجر فول مدمس ثري ولكن أمي متزوج من نبوية يشتري مبنى سكنياً في حي الزمالك يفكر في الانتقال اليه لإنه يعتقد أنه سيرفع من شأنه الاجتماعي بانتقاله من حارته الشعبية إلى الزمالك الذي كان يعتبر أحد الأحياء القاهرية العريقة. في إحدى الشقق يعيش علاء وتتردد عليه مرفت الأرملة وابنة عمه كاظم الباشا السابق وكلهم يعانون من الإفلاس والصعوبات المعيشية. تضطر مرفت إلى الزواج من أبي زيت كزوجة ثانية له بدون علم نبوية ويسكنان في إحدى شقق المبنى. يتدرب أبو زيت على قواعد السلوك الرفيع. عندما يبيع كاظم بيته يشتريه أبو زيت ويساعده في الحفاظ عليه.
نهاية الفيلم سعيدة حيث يدرك علاء وكاظم قيمة العمل وأهمية التواضع ويشتغلان في الفول المدمس ويعيش أبو زيت الهلالي مع زوجتيه في سلام.

Foul is a colorful Egyptian comedy film that was first shown in 1985.
The Story
The story is based on the play "Le Bourgeois Gentleman" by the French author Molière.
Abu Zeit al-Hilali (a play on words similar to Abu Zayd al-Hilali) is a wealthy but illiterate fava bean merchant married to Nabawiya. He buys an apartment building in Zamalek, considering moving there because he believes it will raise his social standing by moving from his working-class neighborhood to Zamalek, which was considered one of Cairo's most prestigious neighborhoods. Alaa lives in one of the apartments, frequented by Mervat, the widow, and his cousin, Kazem Pasha, the former one. They are all suffering from bankruptcy and financial difficulties. Mervat is forced to marry Abu Zeit as a second wife without Nabawiya's knowledge, and they live in one of the building's apartments. Abu Zeit is taught the rules of good behavior. When Kazem sells his house, Abu Zeit buys it and helps him maintain it.
The movie has a happy ending as Alaa and Kazem realize the value of work and the importance of humility. They start working on making fava beans, and Abu Zeit Al Hilali lives in peace with his two wives.
