The hearing of a sound in the absence of an external stimulus is called Tinnitus.
Many patients suffer from Tinnitus and it is often a cause of depression, social isolation, lack of sleep, sound intolerance, suicidal thoughts (in extreme cases), etc.
Tinnitus is caused by the activation of the hair cells within the Cochlea (the hearing organ).
Tinnitus is difficult to manage but with a proper protocol in place, many patients get relief.
