We recently visited Kogyokuboshokudo Meshi Shin-chan, a popular restaurant in Mishima City, Shizuoka Prefecture. This eatery is renowned for its generous portions, with dishes like katsudon (pork cutlet bowl), pork steak, and karaage (Japanese fried chicken) being particularly popular.

The proprietress embodies the philosophy that "eating well is a good thing," encouraging customers to opt for large portions. Currently, the kitchen is being run by a former sumo wrestler, as the owner's husband is unwell. This chef not only creates delicious dishes but also teaches at sumo clubs and schools for children. Many staff members are associated with these clubs, making sumo wrestling a frequent topic of conversation in the restaurant.

The food quality is exceptional, with even the rice alone being substantial. While the generous portions are popular, there's an interesting local quirk: most elderly patrons specifically request "less rice" when ordering, as the standard serving is quite large.
