Wooden drawers wear over time from the wood parts rubbing together. This is the most worn out set of drawers we've ever had in our workshop. The drawer sides and runners are made from pine, which is a softwood, which is less durable than hardwood. These drawers are also missing the locks that were once in them. Scott shows how to install reproduction half-mortise locks as well as how to source the right lock. Scott flattens the bottom of the drawer sides with several different planes. He then glues on wood strips to replace the wood that has worn away. Once the glue has dried, he trims the new wood on the table saw and refines the fit using planes so they slide into the desk drawer openings. He then seals the wood with shellac to provide a surface to attach some new technology, low friction tape, which will help make the drawers slide and prevent them from wearing down in the future.
