ফলটি বেশিরভাগ বসতবাড়ির আঙিনায় আবাদ হয়। তবে বর্তমানে ফলের চাহিদা মেটাতে বাগান আকারে শরিফার চাষ শুরু হয়েছে। শরিফার ইংরেজি নাম Custard apple, sugar apple, sweetsop. এটি এ্যানোনেসি পরিবারের অন্তর্ভুক্ত। এর বৈজ্ঞানিক নাম Annona squamosa পর্তুগিজ ভাষায় ফলটিকে আতা বলে। পর্তুগিজরা কলম্বাসের আমেরিকা আবিষ্কারের আগে এ ফলটিকে আমাদের দেশে নিয়ে আসেন। এ ফলটির গাছের উচ্চতা বেশি (প্রায় ১০ মিটার) এবং ফেব্রুয়ারি/মার্চ মাসে ফল সংগ্রহ করা হয়। এলাকা ভেদে ফল গোলাকার, ডিম্বাকার ও হৃদপিণ্ডাকার হয়। সাধারণত একটি ফলের ওজন ১০০ গ্রাম থেকে ৩০০ গ্রাম পর্যন্ত হয়। খাবারযোগ্য শাঁস বা পাল্পের পরিমাণ ফলের মোট ওজনের প্রায় ৫০ থেকে ৬০ শতাংশ। শাঁসের রঙ সাদা ও ক্রিম ধরনের। শাঁস মিষ্টি ও সুস্বাদু। এতে চিনির মত মিহি দানা থাকে। ফলের টিএসএস ১৮ থেকে ২৪% হয়ে থাকে। ফলের আকার ও প্রকার ভেদে কোষের সংখ্যা ১৯ থেকে ৫৪টি হয়। বীজ কালো, শক্ত এবং প্রায় ৩ থেকে ৪ বছর পর্যন্ত এর অংকুরোদগম ক্ষমতা বজায় থাকে। মাটি ও জলবায়ু: পানি দাঁড়ায় না এমন উঁচু জমিতে, বসতবাড়ির খোলা জায়গায় এবং অল্প ছায়াযুক্ত স্থানেও শরিফা গাছ লাগানো যায়। তবে বেলে দোঁআশ মাটিতে সবচেয়ে ভাল হয়। অম্ল স্বাদযুক্ত পাহাড়ি মাটিতেও এ গাছ ভাল হয়। শরিফা গাছ শুষ্ক ও গরম পরিবেশ পছন্দ করে। Agriculture sector is the lifeline of Bangladesh economy.The sector has remained priority to the government to ensure a profitable, sustainable and environment-friendly agricultural system and also crucial for long-term food security for the people of Bangladesh.
