#45 Iwaya-ji
Iwaya-jiTemple, a sacred mountain site at an altitude of 700m, with a strange peak reaching up to the sky and a hall nestled in the middle of a gigantic rock, has long been a place for ascetic ascetics.
Hirohito 6th year.
At that time, a woman from Tosa holed up in a rock cave, achieved Lotus Samadhi, acquired the supernatural power of being able to fly freely in the air, and was called the Lotus Sage. She devotedly devoted herself to the training methods of the Great Master who visited the place and dedicated the whole mountain to her. did.
Daishi carved wooden and stone statues of Fudo Myoo, enshrined the wooden statue in the main hall as the principal image, enshrined the stone statue in a rock cave as a secret Buddha in the inner temple, and performed Goma rituals on the entire mountain as the principal image of Fudo Myoo.

Also, Ippen Shonin prayed and practiced at this ancient temple in the middle of the Kamakura period, and by the end of the 13th century, these Fudoson statues, the Goma hearth, the Sennin-do, the 49-in caves, and 33 sacred caves, etc. It is said that it remained as it was.
For some time, it was considered the inner temple of the 44th Daihoji Temple, but in 1888, the first chief priest moved to Shinzan.
However, in 1898, the entire mountain was destroyed by fire, leaving behind the Niomon Gate and Kokuzodo Hall, along with other historical materials.
The Daishi-do hall, which is one size larger than the main hall, was rebuilt in 1919, followed by the main hall in 1920, the Sanmon gate in 1927, and the bell tower in 1927.Shukubo Henshokaku was rebuilt in 1938, and Tawari Fudo-do and Hakusan Gongendo were the same. Each was erected in 1953.
Daishido is a nationally designated important cultural property, and the temple area is a national scenic spot and a designated prefectural natural park.

●Point to watch around
・Kobo Daishi's Anazenjo Many remnants of Kobo Daishi's work can be seen on the rocky peak, one of which is a cave called Anazenjo, which is said to have been dug by Kobo Daishi himself and is said to be filled with the sacred water of Tokko. spring water gushes out
・Seriwari Zenjo
If you go up 300 meters up the narrow mountain path behind the Daishi-do Hall, you will see the entrance to the Tawari Meditation where Kobo Daishi once practiced.
There is a locked wooden door in the crevice of the large rock, so please borrow the key from the temple office in advance.
Pass through the crack in the towering rock, climb up the rocky mountain for about 10m using a chain, and then climb the 21-step ladder to reach Hakusan Gongen, which is enshrined at the top of the rock.
It is a dangerous place as some people have lost their lives here, but the spectacular view is unforgettable.
