Israeli tanks have entered the occupied West Bank for the first time in decades, Palestinian officials have called it a dangerous escalation of the war. The Israeli defense minister, referring to the West Bank military operation, said Israeli troops would remain in some parts of the territory for the next year and that tens of thousands of Palestinians who fled would not be able to return to their former places.
