Tarikh Episode 784
Tarikh is a daily program in which we present you with incidents and stories of noteworthy persons and events of History in Hindi. In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about Tripartite Struggle for Kannauj, also known as Kannauj Triangle Wars. The Tripartite Struggle was a protracted conflict in northern India from the 8th to the 9th century CE, involving three powerful dynasties: the Palas, Pratiharas, and Rashtrakutas. The prize at stake was the strategic city of Kannauj, a vital trade and cultural center.
The Palas, based in Bengal, aimed to expand westward. The Pratiharas, centered in the western region, sought to extend their dominion eastward. The Rashtrakutas, emerging from the Deccan, had ambitions to control the northern plains. This three-way rivalry led to a series of wars, with fluctuating fortunes for each side. While the struggle drained resources and weakened all three empires, it ultimately solidified the Pratiharas' dominance in the region, with Kannauj becoming their capital.
The Tripartite Struggle was a pivotal period in Indian history, shaping the political landscape and influencing subsequent developments.
