Papua New Guinea - The Beginning
We planned it for 2020 and everything was paid in advance, but the pandemic came and changed things. The agency we hired had no way of refunding us and we had to wait. Two years have passed. I'm an optimist, but I had almost lost faith that it would happen. Communication was slow, time was passing and until the end I did not know if our trip would become a reality. Not only did it happen, but I think we ended up in a unique place. A place where almost no tourists have passed. In fact, only one lady from England two years ago walked part of the route.
If you Google Papua New Guinea you will see pictures of various tribes with painted faces and beautiful exotic landscapes. They undoubtedly exist, but I was able to touch a different Papua. I was able to see how people live in remote villages in the jungle. The trek we did with Miro was full of experiences. I was like "falling out" of a time machine for most of this trip and a bit inadequate. Looking at the footage now, I know I should have asked more questions, talked more, and shown more. It's good that Miro was on time 😊
The experience was real and powerful, and the place is so different from anything I've seen before. Plants and animals are different, so are food and people. We were warmly welcomed by everyone we met along the way.
As our guide Anne said "Expect the unexpected in Papua New Guinea". This is just the beginning of the journey.
I hope to convey at least a small part of our emotion in the videos that follow. I'm sure you'll like them.
