This is PART 001 of a 2 part Video series showing the FULL process of creating a watercolor and Ink line illustration of three dragons. Inspired by the biological and bestiary illustrations of antiquity. I wanted to lay bare the process de-mystifying what kind of planning is necessary (at least for me anyway) to create a successful final illustration. I will take you through the planning sketches, transferring the drawing onto the final page, penciling, watercolor and dip pen ink linework even a bit of amateur calligraphy thrown in to boot. I have edited it down and sped up some of the footage but even so they are chunky video's with a bit of subtitling too. I could have cut them down far more but I did not want to be deceptive with what goes into these illustrations, perhaps seeing some of the monotony will encourage you that good things take time and planning, but that is also to say ALL they take is time and planning, anyone can give more of that to an artwork and expect better results, I'm not special, you can do it too. As always I hope that this video will not be your sole focus, I hope it will be merely a back ground accompaniment to your own fantastic creative endeavors.
