If you don’t remember Ted Turner, Barbara Pyle and Robert Larkin III’s Captain Planet and the Planeteers, you just cannot call yourself a true 90s kid. There’s no denying that this animated environmentalist superhero TV series was a total classic. After all, it was the world’s first-ever ‘edutainment eco-toon’ to not only deal with some rather pertinent issues such as pollution, melting polar ice caps, deforestation and poaching amongst many, but it also laid out complex social issues like bullying, drug addiction and even AIDS. While it’s true that it has been 25 years since the series’ last episode aired, but it goes without saying that the legacy of the show continues to this very day in the form of ‘Captain Planet Foundation’. The organization not only aids in educating young ones about the various environmental problems but also grants those who are working on environmental projects with seed money.
A favorite show back then and a cult classic now, the series centers on five teenagers from all around the world – Kwame from Africa with the power of earth, Wheeler from North America with the power of fire, Linka from the Soviet Union with the power of wind, Gi from Asia with the power of water and Ma-Ti from South America with the power of the heart. Each of them has an elemental magical ring and combining the five powers, they could summon the earth’s greatest champion, Captain Planet, to help them solve ecological and global concerns.
To be honest, credits for the true essence of the series have to be given to the Eco-Villains featured here. God, they were always busy wreaking havoc! Well, today’s video will be all about them, where we will talk about 10 of the darkest and most destructive villains of Captain Planet with their backstories explained!
