An extended techno session with my dark techno modular case sequenced by the Oxi One. I wanted to experiment more with the sounds I could get from this setup, and use the Oxi One sequencer to drive it. This turned out really good (IMHO) with a much bigger sound than I imagine I could get from such a small setup. With some practice this would make a great live setup.
The intro kicks off with a simple beat from the Volca Sample, just to get things going. I'm sequencing the drums on the Sample over MIDI from sequencer 4 on the Oxi One using a lot of Euclidean patterns.
Here's a modular grid link to my setup for today's video: https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/1935735
== Part 1: Instruo Ts-L ==
The first melodic part starts around 1 minute in and is the Instruo Ts-L, a fantastic analogue triangle core oscillator. I'm taking the PWM output and routing that through Steve's MS-22 by ThreeTomModular (you've gotta buy one of these!) I'm also taking the wavefolded output into the FM input on linear setting, but through a VCA on channel 4 of QARV that is rhythmically triggered by channel 3 of the ST Chasing Lights sequencer. This creates a rhythmic FM effect on the sound from the Ts-L to make it more interesting. By varying the steps in the Chasing Lights you can vary this rhythmic change.
== Part 2: Noise Engineering BIA ==
Around the 3 minute mark I bring up the BIA as the second voice. It takes a few bars for me to get it set up correctly, so bear with me! But then I start playing with the oscillator Spread control and wow does the sound change fast. I never thought I could get these type of phat saw wave sounds from a so-called "drum" module! Skip to just around 4 minutes in to hear the effect. The BIA is going through a Happy Nerding FX Aid for a bit of reverb and delay.
BIA is in Skin mode on the Bass setting, and I'm also modulating the attack CV using a envelope from QARV channel 2 triggered from the ST Chasing Lights.
The melody is being sequenced over CV/gate from the Oxi One sequencer, and I can add notes into the arpeggio by using the keyboard on the One.
== Part 3: Noise Engineering Manis Iteratis ==
Ok now it's time to make some noise! Part 3 starts about 7 minutes in when I (clumsily) bring in the Manis Iteratis. It has a dirty noisy industrial sound to it, and I'm sending it through the Bastl Ikarie filter to mess it up even more. Over drive the filter, dial up the resonance and send it all through a delay on the Erica Dual FX!
Table of contents
00:00 Let's kick it off
00:40 Bringing in the Instruo Ts-L as the first voice
03:00 Transition to the Noise Engineering BIA voice
04:10 Getting some BIG sounds from the BIA
07:10 Transition to the Manis Iteratis for a gritty sound
09:26 Crescendo!
This is the same modular setup from this video: https://youtu.be/r1nWqbwC3o0 but this time I'm using the Oxi One sequencer as the main "brain". Oxi One can sequence up to 8 cv/gate channels, as well as 16 x 3 MIDI channels. I'm using the Oxi Pipe to connect my Oxi One cleanly to the case; a single HDMI cable takes the place of a dozen patch cables.
I'm using a humble Volca Sample as the drum voice here. The drums are sequenced from a multitrack sequencer on the Oxi One. I had the Volca sample sitting on my shelf so why not use it!
