April 20th 2010, the oil platform rented by British company BP to drill in the Gulf of Mexico, the deepest offshore well ever digged, explodes and leaves 11 people dead and 17 injured. It generated a fire and a large oil slick.
The explosion of the platform created an unprecedented ecological disaster : 780million L of oil spread out in the ocean.
On September 19th, after several attempts, the slick is finally declared to be clogged by the American Federal government. But the explosion has immensely affected the local ecosystem and economy, threatening more than 400 species including wales, dolphins, manatees and numerous birds.
In October 2012, it seems possible that Deepwater Horizon moves again. At least, it is what indicates a new oil slick with an identical composition to the oil lost two years earlier. The slick could be coming from a breach in a dome located 500m below sea level.
