Almost every day we hear on the news about another phone scam or some new scheme by which people are stung, Bulgarians are kings in this. However, individuals do not always fall victim to persistent liars. Sometimes whole societies and even countries fall into the nets of people with bad ideas. From the mass hysteria that Microsoft is buying the Catholic Church, to the moment when citizens of our city of Ruse welcome aliens. I'm Slavi and I present to you 12 scams that everyone believed.

We start our journey with the US, where there are currently elections, but there is quite an interesting case study available in the past that you may have heard about in the news. It's about the Giants from Cardiff. Then we'll enter the tech world, as the news broke in the 1990s that Microsoft was buying the Catholic Church. We will not miss Europe and rather England, where they allegedly found the bones of a fairy. Did you know that in the past there was a robot that was a chess player? This is the famous mechanical Turk. The mermaid from Fiji is another hoax that many people believed.

We won't miss the food either, as a well-known chain of fast food restaurants has launched burgers for left-handed people. As you can imagine, there is no such thing. The most interesting perhaps comes from Bulgaria, when several thousand residents of the city of Ruse gather to welcome aliens at Shtrklevo airport.
