Porto Cervo (Poltu Celvu in Gallura dialect) is a seaside village and main center of the Costa Smeralda or rather of the historical-geographical region known as Gallura. This renowned holiday resort was built around the deep natural harbour, whose shape resembles that of a deer and dominates the headlands overlooking the sea. This village which the locals previously called Porto Mannu was inaugurated in 1964, however the old port dates back to 1962, when Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, fascinated by the beauty of this stretch of coast, decided to purchase the land in the area and, together with the Swiss-French set designer Jacques Couelle, then supported by the architect Luigi Vietti and later by the architect Michele Busiri Vici, to create a tourist site.
