Disney Movies and Disney Pixar movies have come a long way since the beginning days of the studio. Seeing all the technology animators and creators have access to today can make us forget that this technology only recently came to light, and before then animation was a lot more difficult, and took a lot more time. Which is why, if you’re a Disney fan of original animated films like The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast you might have noticed that some animations throughout these films look a little familiar. And that’s because Disney was a huge fan of reusing animation from previous films in their new ones.
This has happened all the way up to Disney’s Princess and the Frog, who wanted to portray their film in hand-drawn animation instead of the digital animation we see in films like Frozen and Moana. Re-using animation was often done because of how long it took to animate something, in an effort to save time and money creators would look for animations already developed that they could use. There are also a few times where animation was reused as a creative choice like in the Toy Story films, however overall it’s really interesting to see how much of Disney past animation isn’t exactly “original.” Ready to find out what movies Disney copied to create the iconic Tale as old as Time Beauty and the Beast dance scene?
