Heres the recipe for Dal Dhokli
Dal Dhokli Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Dal:
• 1 cup toor dal (pigeon peas)
• 4 cups water
• 1 tbsp oil or ghee
• 1 tsp mustard seeds
• 1 tsp cumin seeds
• 1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing)
• 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
• 1 tsp red chili powder
• 2 tbsp jaggery (or sugar)
• 2 tbsp tamarind paste (or lemon juice)
• 2 green chilies
• 1/2 tsp roasted cumin powder
• 5-6 curry leaves
• 2 tbsp peanuts
• Salt to taste
• 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves (for garnish)
For the Dhokli (Wheat Flour Dumplings):
• 1 cup whole wheat flour
• 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
• 1/2 tsp red chili powder
• 1/2 tsp carom seeds (ajwain)
• 1 spoon Chickpea Flour
• Salt to taste
• 1 tsp oil
• Water (as needed to knead the dough)
Instructions:
1. Cook the Dal:
• Rinse the toor dal and pressure cook it with peanuts and water for 3-4 whistles until soft. Mash the dal and keep it aside.
2. Prepare the Dhokli Dough:
• In a mixing bowl, combine wheat flour, turmeric, red chili powder, carom seeds, cumin seeds, salt, and oil. Add water gradually and knead into a firm dough. Cover and let it rest for 10 minutes.
3. Prepare the Dal Base:
• Heat ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, and curry leaves. Let them splutter.
• Add green chilies and sauté for a minute.
• Pour in the mashed dal along with 1 cup of water. Add jaggery, tamarind paste, and salt. Let it simmer.
4. Make & Add the Dhokli:
• Roll out the dough into a thin circle and cut it into diamond or square shapes.
• Drop the pieces one by one into the simmering dal, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
5. Final Simmer & Serve:
• Let the dal dhokli cook on low-medium heat for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
• Add chopped coriander leaves before turning off the heat.
6. Serve:
• Enjoy hot dal dhokli with a drizzle of ghee
