1890s Inspired Updo Tutorial

Video Not Working? Fix It Now

In this video, I will show you how to create a simple early 1890s inspired updo on long hair. I've opted just to curl the front section of hair to make sleeping easier. I often don't sleep well, and even pillow rollers tend to exasperate this. Just curling the front section means I can sleep easier and more comfortably. (To more closely mimic the illustrations, the rest of the hair can be curled in loose waves. However I've seen examples of Edwardian women just setting their front sections of hair, so I think it's safe to apply a similar setting pattern for styles a couple years earlier.) I don't have bangs or any short layers, but if you do, you can simply curl these without pinning for a very similar look. Also, if you want to be completely historically accurate, you can eliminate the center hair elastic and secure the hair with hair pins, not bobby pins. This shouldn't change the look but it is a bit more difficult, hence why I've used the more modern options.
