Yugoslavia and England met in a friendly match in 1974. The match was played in Belgrade in June 1974 as part of Yugoslavia's preparations for the World Cup in Germany, which England missed out on.
Under caretaker manager Joe Mercer, England were keen to put the pain of failing to qualify for the World Cup behind them. However, their rivals from Yugoslavia had a strong team that would do very well in the World Cup.
