This is the 10/26/1977 USC at Notre Dame game. 77 was a national championship season for Notre Dame. Coming into this game you wouldn't have known it. At 4-1 the Irish had struggled. They did beat a good Pitt team to open but then were upset at Ole Miss in week 2 and their next 3 wins had been underwhelming. Dan Devine wasn't the most popular of Irish Coaches and he devised a motivational scheme for this game that provided a lift to last the season. After the dawning of the green jerseys for USC, Notre Dame was a completely different team that was motivated and on a roll. It came in prticularly handly when they faced a highly decorated Texas team that seemed to lack motivation in The Cotton Bowl. I claim no rights.
