Larry Hagman rolled into the BBC studios complete with walking cane, ten-gallon hat and a sticker exhorting 'J.R. for President' to talk about how he was finding life as the character that people loved to hate (or, perhaps, hated to love) - J.R. Ewing.

As Hagman held court with host Terry Wogan in front of a rapt studio audience, it was sometimes hard to know where Larry ended and J.R. began.

He did break character long enough in this extensive interview to also indulge us in anecdotes about being a bouncer in a gorilla suit for Peter Fonda's birthday and being the son of May Martin, before gifting Terry some genuine Texas, eh..., 'cowpat'.

Clip taken from Friday Night... Saturday Morning, originally broadcast on BBC Two, Friday 21 March, 1980.
