Shadow was just chilling in the nest after sunset on Tuesday evening when Jackie arrived a little later than usual. They began discussing something very important. Perhaps Shadow thought he'd be taking the night shift... but no, Jackie seemed to have other ideas. She may have had the last word, but Shadow knew he would be back again first thing in the morning for his shift on the eggs.
So sure enough, he was up bright and early, ready and waiting on the Lookout Snag tree for Jackie. She did her routine yoga stretches, then flew out. As soon as she landed on the snag tree, he lifted off and headed to the nest to care for his favorite trio of eggs.
Shadow arrived yesterday with a bundle of long dried reeds. He chose to leave them by Jackie's head, then he reached for a misplaced stick and was on a mission to fix it. He was so close to Jackie that when she leaned back, her head softly slipped right under his wing. Oopsie! That was enough to get her up off the eggs! While she was gone, Shadow stayed busy rearranging that new fluff.
The wind picked up and Jackie returned a short while later for the next exchange. She had to step in as close as she could and gave her love some big beak nibbles… that worked well!
On the next exchange, Shadow landed on the front porch and another whimsical conversation took place. More back-and-forth chattering… then silence. Finally, Jackie gave in and left for a break, flying right over Shadow's head as he waited patiently on the front porch. He hopped down and carefully stepped into the nice warm, dry bowl filled with their precious eggs.
Finally, after Jackie returned from her last break of the day, they had another lengthy beak-to-beak chat. Once again, they just chatted away, seemingly with much intent and purpose. Oh, if only we just could interpret the Eaglish language! Shadow finally agreed to get up, however, Mama Jackie was blocking the way out. He managed to squeeze by her and shake off a thick sticky-stick that got stuck in his talons. The best eagle Dad in the west then headed out to a favorite roost tree for the night.

🥚🐣Reminder: Pip Watch starts tomorrow, Saturday March 1st at 17:05 cam time. We will post when a pip is confirmed. A “pip” is a small star-shaped hole the chick makes in the eggshell using its egg tooth. This will start the hatching process. Have a wonderful and safe weekend eagle family!
