Railroad Switching At The Wye, 2 Mile Long Train With DPU On Sharp Curve With All Kinds Of Freight, Amtrak So Fast They Kick Up The Dust, Train Horn Salute, New Railroad Conductor In Training Riding Cement Train, Locomotive Power Move With Seaboard Coast Line, Close Look At Ancient Rail On Main Line. CSX & Amtrak Trains In Lakeland, Florida At The Winston Wye. Alligators & Wild Boar Included.
Check out the huge mixed freight coming around the wye track out of Winston Yard. This train is over 10,000 feet long and has all kinds of freight cars. The curve is at a railroad crossing in Lakeland, Florida on the CSX line. The mid train DPU was earning its keep. The east leg of the wye is actually the railroad south leg.
We also got a locomotive power move heading to Tampa with the CSX Seaboard Coast Line Heritage Unit. That was awesome and was the second CSX Heritage Unit that I got in two days. After the power move we see a CSX cement local with a couple of crew members riding the rear. The conductor in orange is being trained by the other conductor in yellow. They just picked up loaded cement hoppers from a new customer in Lakeland.
We also see a couple of fast Amtrak trains coming and going to Tampa. These trains are different train and check out the locomotives. One train was booking so fast that the dust got kicked up.
The final train is a huge train that is doing some railroad switching in Winston Yard. This train pulled up past me, made a move and then reversed back into the yard. This is a great place to watch trains and possibly the best railroad location near Tampa. It gets a lot of trains and Amtrak makes two round trips a day past here.
We also go to Myakka River State Park to see some alligators and some wild boar. Myakka River State Park is one of Floridas biggest parks and has 58 square miles of land with numerous hiking trails , rivers and lakes. Alligators can be easily found just about anywhere that has water. The park has two main entrances, one to the north and one to the south. We went to the north entrance and found that it was closed. We hiked a couple trails there and then drove through Sarasota to go all the way to the South Gate in order to access the park. Then we hiked more trails and found alligators all over the place. We counted 17 of them at one spot. If you see one on a trail you are supposed to turn around and go back the way you came in order to prevent getting a nasty alligator bite. I would guess that their bites would hurt and probably get infected. Some guy with a limp warned us about a trail we were on. I wanted to ask him why he was missing a hand but Mrs Tooth stopped me.
Some areas have a lot of tourists and other areas have none. We got a lot of video of wildlife. I filmed raccoons in the daylight and saw boar, turkeys, deer and a snake among other things. We also saw a couple of armadillos at another park.
Which train was your favourite and did you notice the train horn salute?
Don't forget the Live Action Animals and the slide show at the end of this video.
