Hi there, Liron here! In today's video we'll be looking at two different painting methods / approaches, and demo each one.

** Method #1 - Negative **

This one is a very common approach among the contemporary watercolor impressionists. It involves doing covering as much space as possible with every wash.

Every wash covers everything BUT the highlights / things that are lighter than the current wash. And you strive to connect as many areas as possible.

The advantage with this one is how much more fluid of a result you can get with it. The disadvantage is how complex the negative painting and connecting areas can be.

** Method #2 - Light to Dark **

This is what I would say the more classic and "correct" approach to painting (that I'm starting to adopt more and more recently).

It involves starting by painting the highlights, then the mid-values and finally the darks. This approach is less concerned with cohesiveness, and is more about getting the right values in the right place, and working from light to dark.

The advantage here is the simpler process. The challenge is "painting" the highlights. This is something not a lot of watercolor painters seem to be used to doing, conceptually.

It takes some getting used to.

I hope you find this one helpful. Let me know your thoughts in a comment below!
