This is the tale of the 2003 Olathe North Eagles, one of my favorite Kansas high school football stories. The team started the season with a loss that ended their 38-game winning streak. They ended it as Class 6A state champions. Their journey in between was worthy of a documentary.
I saw this team play in person in Week 2 and at that time they were far from state champion quality. They had great size and athleticism but were flat and had no cohesion. It looked like Gene Wier had taken the dynasty with him to Texas. They won the game 14-6 on the heels of a defensive touchdown and a late interception in their own end zone.
The Eagles would narrowly slip by three of their next four opponents to get to 4-2. That's where this video begins and I'll let it tell the rest of the story.
