Man sorry for the wait! Finally did the dreaded head gasket change on the discovery 2! Believe it or not really the hardest part was removing broken bolts and repairing broken headers, the actual headgasket change was very simple its just a matter of getting the motor apart enough to get to it! Repair kit from atlantic british w/bolts TTY Bolts: Head Gasket Set: Composite For Land Rover V8 BOSCH Engine (Part #STC4082BKA) - Land Rover kits from Atlantic British (might as well upgrade to the ARP head studs)
You will need various tools, make sure you have all the basics. Things that are a must is these https://a.co/d/43C8qte (universal joint kit for wrenches) and this https://a.co/d/795xmVt (24” straight edge) and these make some hard to get spots easier https://a.co/d/a3I1iWs (ratcheting wrench set) You will also need a decent torque wrench and breaker bar. If you haven’t yet get a clutch fan removal kit and you might as well replace all your idlers and tensioner pulleys along with the belt. The hardness is hard 10/10 I suggest get the truck somewhere you can leave it apart for a while and take your time and dont force anything. This was my first time doing something like this and i have already put 1000miles in it simce i have done it so if youre capable give it a try before the engine nukes itself good luck!
