THE ORIGINAL HIPPOCRATES OATH
I remember Apollo the physician, and Asclepius, and Hygieia, and Panacea, and all the gods, and all of them, a historian, and I will do my utmost to make this oath and this writing.
To be led by the one who teaches with this art, as if we were born together, and to share life, and to be used for transmission, and to be born from this to brothers, as if to criticize, and to teach this art, or to be used for memorization, without salary and writing, and without orders and without acrostics and without the rest, to be transmitted as a son to me, and to be like the one who taught me, and to be students, registered and sworn by the law of my mother, and by nothing else.
I will use judgment for the benefit of those who act according to my power and judgment, but I will not declare and act unjustly.
I will not give any medicine or ask for anything deadly, nor will I give such advice. Likewise, I will not give any fluoride to a woman. But I will maintain my life and my art purely and honestly.
I will not cut or stone, but I will leave the work of men to their own devices.
But if I am in a house of some kind, I will enter for the benefit of those who do, except for all unjust will and lust, neither of the other nor of aphrodisiac works on the bodies of women and men, both free and slaves.
If in healing I see or hear, or even without healing, things in the life of men, which should never be spoken of outside, I will be silent, for such things are unspeakable.
They swore to me, therefore, that they would do that, and not forget it, that they might be glorified in life and art, above all men, for all time. But they transgressed and swore, contrary to these things.
