In this video, I show you how to replace the infamous turbine speed sensor 2, which fails and causes a P1710 OBD error. This was done on a 2011 (4th generation) Subaru Outback 3.6R with the (excellent) 50speed 5EAT transmission. This requires removing the valve body and splicing the new sensor in using solder and heat shrink tubing to ensure good long-term performance.
I beat the bushes to find the "right" sensor, since Subaru doesn't sell parts for the valve body ($1,800 currently), and to figure out the right way to replace it. The sensor is a Hall effect sensor, and it's critical to get one that will be truly compatible.
To find the sensor that I used, search "Tbestok3f654u2x" on Amazon and you can probably find it (assuming it remains available).
After the repair, I show the performance of the sensor on my bidirectional scanner, and I'll update this video description if the sensor does fail in the future.
