2014 Malibu with the customers main complaint being an intermittent stalling problem. We found in the process of recreating the stalling event, that the car had a bad misfire, a bad catalytic converter, an idle lean condition, a leaking valve cover gasket (into the ignition coil area) and a few other issues.
As many of you know, a customer won't bring you his car, even though he has been staring at a check engine light for years, until he can't drive it anymore. Our job as technicians is to navigate through all of the problems he has, to find the one issue that is making his car undriveable and advise him along the way with all the other stuff. Sometimes one problem can set many different codes and sometimes there are many different problems. If you find yourself not making money performing diagnostic work, then you are not billing for it properly!
