Today we have a 2018 Jeep Compass that has a battery that will die every night. The customer has already had the main battery replaced, but continues to have to jump start their car every morning. This vehicle is equipped with an auxiliary (aka start stop) battery. We show you how to isolate this battery as a cause and even show you some testing and theories behind performing what is called a parasitic load (aka current draw) test to determine the cause of this issue. This is a pretty common issue on Dodge, Jeeps, and Chrysler products and generally speaking we usually recommend just replacing both batteries at the same time when you get one. Nowadays, parasitic load issues are pretty uncommon due to body control modules having the ability to disable circuits that are causing the draws, but knowing how to test it can still come in handy at times. This should be the same procedure on 2018 Jeep Compass, 2019 Jeep Compass, 2020 Jeep Compass, and 2021 Jeep Compass.
