It is Super Bowl weekend so I thought it would be appropriate to review the American standards, Caymus. Depending on your budget, Caymus or Caymus Special Selection are must try wines if you want to understand Napa wines.
It has such a long history in Napa and it is wine that most people either love or hate. I am not a big Napa fan but I do enjoy the opulence of the wine although it is very, very fruit forward.
I always forget things on the video so I forgot to mention that 75% of the grapes are taken from the Napa floor (supple) and 25% are taken from the hillside (dark, tannic). The soil in Napa is perfect for Cabernet Sauvignon: rock (stone) and gravel.
Also forgot to mention on the 2018 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon, on the top of the bottle, they have the number of the vintage, which is their 46th vintage. Nice gift for someone who is, for example, celebrating their 46th birthday.
After several hours of aeration, Special Selection develops a mocha/chocolate aftertaste.
