The 2020 Audi A7 Prestige S Line was a blast to drive, beautiful to look at, and a pleasure to be in. But is it worth $80,000? Few interior designs can compare to Audi’s upscale treatment of the piano black trim around the giant dual monitors. BMW and Mercedes have some catching up to do as far as design is concerned, and believe me, there is NO bad angle on this car. Everything is beautiful. The question is, should you buy the Audi A7 or consider the Mercedes Benz CLS?
As I said, driving the Audi A7 Prestige was a blast thanks to a powerful V6 combined with a mild electric. Add the wonderful 4 wheel steering to this combo and you have a car that never feels underpowered coming out of turns. The transmission may be the worst part of this car. The downshifts are far slower than BMW and Mercedes models in this price range.
The A7 (along with the original A7) has to be one of my favorite designs of the last 10 years. The Audi A7 was proof that functional fastback sedans can be cool. Porsche tried this with the Panamera and the original model was a disaster. Hideous proportions and a melting rear end just wouldn’t convince me that this category can be anything but nasty looking. The A7 showed us that there is potential to not only look cool, but to look absolutely stunning.
