I go over the engine specs, horsepower, upgraded towing figures and perform a full towing review in the real world. I pull 14,000lbs behind this truck on my 120 miles towing loop to measure and compare acceleration, engine braking, power and performance, gear shifting and fuel economy. finally I give my conclusion as a licensed heavy duty mechanic on this new 10 Speed Allison Transmission with the gas 6.6L engine.
I wanted to compare the upgraded 10 speed Allison transmission to the older 2023 6.6L gas engine that comes with the 6 speed transmission and see the differences of towing performance between both trucks.
the 2024 chevy 2500 with the 10 speed felt so much more alive and pulled stronger through the whole rpm range and through most different speeds when doing down the highway.
the biggest difference was the response and the downshifting when coming up hills. it made a massive difference and I think potential buyers are going to really like the upgraded 10 speed much more when towing.
overall when comparing the new 2024 chevy HD 2500 to the 7.3L Godzilla gas engine in the ford super duty. I think the gap is much smaller and both trucks are very comparable and able to pull those big towing numbers with ease.
I really like what GM has done with this chevy HD gas pick up truck.
