Circa $55,000 is a generous budget for a small SUV and opens up the entry point to a couple of German brands, so it’s fair to expect a lot for your cash when shopping around Japanese marques.
One option is Toyota’s freshly introduced C-HR range-topper which wears the company’s performance halo badge, albeit in GR Sport lite variety.
But for a couple of grand extra, the budget will stretch to a model in luxury brand Lexus’s ranks and the new LBX - also in the most premium Sports Luxury specification.
