Begampur Tant Biswakarma Puja History 👇
Most of the Tantubaya community lives in Begumpur, Khorasrai, Chhota Tajpur areas of Hooghly district. Begampuri tant saree is known and famous to all. Here Puja is organized with Vishwakarma, the god of instruments, as a witness on Shuklanavami Tithi, exactly three months after Navami Tithi of Durga Puja. It is also known as Akal Vishwakarma Puja. In fact, when Vishwakarma Puja takes place, on September 17 or in the month of Bhadra, weavers are busy weaving clothes for Ashwin's Durga Puja. Therefore, Vishwakarma, the god of instruments, could not perform the puja with joy. For this reason, they themselves decided to organize this puja on Shukla Navami, three months after Durga Navami. In house loom puja, a sepoy on the shola horse and a paddy grain near the tail is placed on the loom of each loom and the puja is performed.
The special feature of the idol here is that Tagore's vehicle is a horse instead of an elephant. Two hands instead of four hands. When the loom moves, the 'spider' makes a 'khata khat' sound like a horse's hooves when it moves from left to right. The sound of a razor when a horse moves, therefore the horse is the vehicle of Vishwakarma Tagore in Tantuba. The loom is operated with two hands hence two handed Vishwakarma. In one hand there is a kite or a loom or a moon garland; On the other hand, the words of blessing are given. A total of about 35 Pujas are held in Begumpur, Khorasrai, Chhota Tajpur region.
The idol of Akal Vishwakarma made of clay was brought from Janai, Barar Kumartuli, Begumpur Baruni Ghata, Chatra Srirampur. Illumination comes from Chandannagar. Members of many clubs, young and old, make beautiful pooja mandap, which catches the eye. Moreover, various exhibitions are conducted with different clay doll models.
Around 60 years ago in 1962 (1369 Bangalabd), this puja was first started at Kanthaltala in Begumpur. Among those who started this puja, Haradhan Dutta, who is still alive, said, “During the short busyness of winter, I was sitting on Tarak Bhad's loom shawl, discussing plays, journeys or what to do. A sudden suggestion comes that we cannot rejoice in Vishwakarma Puja. So to worship our instrument let's worship with Vishwakarma idol. The idol worship has started. The first time the idol was bought, the price was six and a half rupees. Next year also the idol was bought. Then the weaver made the Gaur Kundu idol.” Since 1996, Puja has been organized in a grand manner
