Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana is faced with making tough decisions when he delivers his 2025 National Budget Speech in Parliament on Wednesday.
The budget presentation was postponed last month after parties in the Government of National Unity could not reach a consensus on the Department of Treasury's proposal to increase Value Added Tax by 2%, from 15 % to 17 %.
In his 2024 Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement, Godongwana revealed that government debt is anticipated to exceed R6-trillion in 2025/26.
Joining us virtually this morning to talk more about alternatives that the Department of Treasury has to balance the budget books is Matthew Parks, COSATU's Parliamentary Coordinator.
