「あたみ桜」は、明治初期にイタリア人の手によってレモンやナツメヤシと共に、熱海に伝わったと言われています。開花時期が非常に早いのが特徴で、沖縄のカンヒザクラ（寒緋桜）とほぼ同時期の1月に開花することから、早咲きの桜として親しまれ、それをお目当てに熱海を訪れる観光客もたくさんいます。
ひとつひとつの花が大きく、濃いピンク色をした美しいあたみ桜は、熱海を訪れる人々に少し早い春を感じさせてくれます。

It is said that "Atami Sakura" was brought to Atami by Italians in the early Meiji period, along with lemons and dates. It is characterized by its very early flowering period, and blooms in January at almost the same time as Okinawa's Kanhizakura (winter cherry blossoms), so it is loved as an early-blooming cherry blossom, and many tourists visit Atami to see it.
The beautiful Atami Sakura, with its large individual flowers and deep pink color, makes people visiting Atami feel the spring a little early.
