We spent several weeks cruising the lagoon of New Caledonia while waiting for a weather window to complete the offshore passage to Australia. The contrast between the big city of Noumea and the pristine coral reefs and beautiful nature were only seperated by a short day sail. With it's huge lagoon inside the protecting reef, New Caledonia has excellent cruising in calm waters. Julia is a traditional wooden boat, built in Desolation Sound in 1960 to William Atkin's Ingrid design. The dinghy is skin on frame, built to the Annabelle design by Dave Gentry.
