Dry stacked stone gets laid, massive foundation beams get sawmilled, and rough-sawn floor joists get mortised in. The cows are moved to summer pasture, and wildlife abounds in this video. Nobody builds like this anymore! Historically inspired methods and long gone stories.
22 tons of random rubble stone is laid--by hand--with NO mortar. History & ancient craftsmanship are explored, all while surrounded by the mountains & prairies of the stunning Montana landscape. This work is for the repair/rebuild of an historic 1889 cabin on the Montana prairie.
Watch sandhill cranes pay us a visit, along with lots of native birds and ground dwellers. At the end of this episode we have a proper (and beefy!) historically inspired foundation for this little homestead cabin rebuild. Stay tuned for next episode where we will mill and build a floor!
