Nanshan District, located in the central-western part of Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, borders Futian District to the east, Bao'an District to the west, Longhua New District to the north, and faces Shekou Port and Shenzhen Bay to the south, with Hong Kong’s Yuen Long across the bay to the southeast. As of 2023, it covers an area of 185.22 km² and has a permanent population of 1.81 million (2022 data). The terrain is dominated by platforms and plains, with a subtropical marine monsoon climate characterized by long summers and short winters. In 2023, its GDP reached 856.602 billion RMB, a 5.1% year-on-year increase, with the tertiary sector accounting for 70.4%. Key tourist attractions include Window of the World, Happy Valley, Splendid China Folk Village, Shenzhen Safari Park, and Nantou Ancient Town. Historically part of the Baiyue region during the pre-Qin period, it was later incorporated into the Nanhai Commandery during the Qin Dynasty and officially established as a district in 1990. It currently governs 8 subdistricts (e.g., Nanshan Subdistrict, Shekou Subdistrict) and the Qianhai Cooperation Zone, with the district government headquartered at No. 1 Taoyuan Road, Nantou Subdistrict.
