On Sundays in downtown Los Angeles, the streets are sparsely populated with people and cars, regaining a sense of calm. Amidst the tranquil atmosphere of the holiday silence, the members of 306 Cycling gather, riding silently through the city on fixed-gear track bikes.
Their true goal is to navigate the landscape of Los Angeles with complete freedom. When asked about their purpose for conquering Los Angeles on track bikes, they reply, "Because the road is there." It's a sentiment that echoes a famous mountaineer's quote, yet they don't seem particularly concerned about it. Customizing their track bikes with expensive components developed for professional racers and using them for urban riding is a natural choice for them. They take pride in being deeply immersed in the track bike hobby and justify it by sharing the joy they experience from these rides with my friends. Sometimes, they come to their senses. The place fills with an array of high-end track bikes and components that are too many for one person to use, leaving them immobilized.
However, track bikes have already become their form of artistic expression, with customization having no end. Gazing absentmindedly at their track bikes, which reflect their own unique personalities, and eagerly anticipate the next Sunday’s group ride with 306 Cycling.
