//3 THINGS TO INCLUDE IN EVERY THERAPY SESSION:
#1) GROSS MOTOR ACTIVITY:
Use a tunnel or painter tape to create an obstacle course
SENSORY: Grab a BIN
MEET THEIR ENERGY or HELP BOOST Their Energy Level for active engagement with a FUN activity (bilibo chair, laundry bin (sing row row row your boat and then dump them out when you say DREAM! Create a verbal routine with this and then WAIT before saying the last word to see if they will fill in the blank!)
#2) CREATE an END to ALL activities!
If something goes IN, it must come OUT to END the activity!
Clean up to create an END or have the little people / animals / mini objects go IN a bin, cup, bag, box, WHATEVER you have! Create a play routine with a clear and defined END to help motivate and encourage a child to begin!
Set a visual timer, if needed!
#3) Use a child's INTERESTS and STRENGTHS to lead the session! THEN expand!
Use INTRINSIC MOTIVATION to determine WHAT we play with that day!
JOIN IN on their activity by EXPANDING, MODELING LANGUAGE, and SHOWING THEM what to do with the objects - to BUILD off of what they want to do! (TAKE TURNS!)
Provide OPTIONS to decrease echolalia and follow through on the child's response / request (do what they chose / say)
USE MUSIC!!!!!!! Some children are GESTALT LANGUAGE LEARNERS meaning that they learn language in CHUNKS (phrases) instead of at the word / symbol level. Music is a GREAT way to target joint attention, increasing attention span, following directions, gross motor, fine motor, receptive language, turn taking, imitating gestures/words, completing verbal routines, making request, YOU NAME IT!
// Here are my FAVORITE songs to use in therapy:
Happy and You Know It
Hokey Pokey
Ring Around the Rosey
Freeze Dance
Head, Shoulders, Knees Toes
Wheels On the Bus
Ants Go Marching
Itsy Bitsy Spider

10/21: ATTN: since filming this video I have had the opportunity to learn from autistic adults that many AA prefer IDENTITY-first language in order to respect the challenges & strengths related to autism. With that being said, I respect the Individual differences In all neurodiverse communities and would like to support the autistic community In any way I can.
